Se la
miseria non avesse tanto flagellato in nostro paese, forse oggi
sarebbe ancora "il paese degli artigiani" e le botteghe di
grandi maestri avrebbero attirato folle di clienti, tutti in
cosa per aver un manufatto prodotto da quelle abili mani. E
sicuramente Ngiulillo avrebbe avuto una sua bottega con tanti
apprendisti. Purtroppo le cose non sono andate così e abbiamo
perso tante persone capaci, costrette ad emigrare per avere
pane, dignità e un avvenire per i figli. Che peccato!!!
Angelo Garofano proviene da una
grande famiglia di artigiani della pietra, che per mezzo
secolo hanno adornato case patrizie e chiese in mezza
Irpinia.
Da qualche tempo
si dedica anche al legno, riuscendo ad ottenere ottimi
manufatti.
Attualmente vive ed è attivo in
Canada.

"paese of artisans." Once shops of the grand masters
attracted crowds of customers, all in search of products
manufactured by skillful Italian hands. And certainly
Ngiulillo had a workshop with such apprentices.
Unfortunately, we have lost many capable artisans and
craftsmen, forced to emigrate for bread, dignity and a
future for their children. What a pity!
Angelo Garofano, who now lives and works in Canada, comes
from a long line of stone carvers. His family's skill has
adorned prominent homes and churches in central Irpinia for
more than half a century.
For some time, he also worked in wood, succeeding in
creating excellent handicrafts." |
